The Perfect Dancewear During Winter

People of all ages, gender and races are fond of dancing. It is a type of performance art that requires thorough artistic execution, skills and fitness. Dance movements greatly demand tremendous amount of strength of the legs, arms and other parts of the body depending on the type of dance. And since it involves the human body and exposes to possible injuries, it is highly recommended to ear proper garments to protect the parts of the body. For example, dancers wear a pair of leg warmers to prevent them from cramping and other leg muscle injuries. You can see leg warmers most commonly used by ballet dancers. However, as times go by, leg warmers became also part of fashion revolution as there are now different materials used for crafting this garment such as cotton, synthetic fibers, chenille and knitted wool. They are now also come with different colors so that kids and teens can choose their favorite color of leg warmers.

Depending on one’s own preferences, brand and budget, dancers has a variety of option as to which leg warmers to choose. There are those hued in neon colors so they look highly fashionable and attractive. A few examples of colors to choose from can include green, pink and purple. You can also expect to have other popular colors and those that are mixed with different colors that blend good with other dancewear and accessories. A lot of companies have started designing leg warmers of varied colors, designed according to seasons and types of dances. That is why even non-dancers can opt to buy leg warmers just to accentuate their plain or dull T-shirt and skirt/short outfit, or provide warmth during winter. Leg warmers are apparently worn below the knee, but with the recent changes for fashion’s sake, there are others designed to be worn to cover the parts of the thighs.

Leg warmers are just one part of different dance accessories.  You can match them with leotards, dance footwear and anything that can comprise a dance costume. You can also wear this garment while performing aerobics, gymnastics or even when jogging to be able to sweat. With the many benefits you can get from wearing a pair of leg warmers, you can sure of spending your money on a worthwhile investment and for your dance lessons. Leg warmers are a great support for the leg muscles and can make you feel comfortable against cold weather.

However, just like any other dance accessories, your leg warmers also require some good maintenance. It is not advisable to exchange this garment with other dancers, most especially if you have a different body built. It could only stretch the material beyond your size, thus this may lead to leg warmers becoming sag. Sagging leg warmers is a main factor to feel discomfort that may affect your dance performance. It is also not recommended to wear your leg warmers too low because they might cause you to accidentally slip while dancing. You can prevent this situation by wearing the leg warmers just above the ankles.

Why Proper Dancewear Is Important

Regardless of the kind of dance you are in, what you wear, including your dance shoes and the accessories that you have, would have an impact on how great your performance is. Just think, would you be able to dance properly if your shoes are one size too big?

When it comes to proper dancewear, there is actually no one-size-fits-all solution. Each of the different dance genre would call for a different set of dance wear. The one thing that remains constant, though, is the fact that dancewear should give the person the freedom to execute even the most complicated of moves. Of course, the design should not interfere with what the dance is all about.

In ballet, for example, dancewear should hug the body of the dancer. This is because the dance focuses more on the form of the body. That being the case, some of the most common dancewear in ballet include tutus, leotards, and tights. Oftentimes, dancers also go for tulle and wrap-around skirts. For dance shoes, most would weir ballet slippers or pointe shoes depending on the kind of dance that they would be performing.

On the other hand, ballroom dancers have to make sure that their dance is clearly reflected on the dancewear that they have. One would notice that ballroom dance genre that are considered to be sensual would have the dancers wearing revealing pieces that leave very little to the imagination. In some cases, the colors would also reflect just what kind of dance a person would execute - dark red for tango, or dark blue for waltz. Dance shoes of ballroom aficionados would usually need to fit the foot well and should have a sole that would keep the dancer from slipping.

For tap dancers, the dancewear might play very little role in their steps as what is deemed important would be the kind of dance shoes that they would be wearing. This is because, as the name implies, tap dancing would require the performer to produce rich, quality tapping sound with the help of his or her shoes. In most cases, the dancer would just put on a flamboyant and flashy dancewear in order to add to the drama of the steps that he or she would be doing.

Dancers who are performing steps deemed for religious events would have to make sure that the dancewear they have on would be modest enough. This would typically mean that the dress should cover most of the body. Dance shoes tend to be simple and are often closed-toe. Since most of the steps are very basic and simple, dancers do not have problems moving around even with all the skirts billowing around. These liturgical dancewears, however, tend to be hot and might cause the person to perspire a lot.

Having presented that, you can simply see that the right dancewear not only allows the person to perform the needed steps comfortably but it can also help the dance to become more alive.
