Learn How to Make a Hammock for Cats

If there are hammocks made for dogs, cats won’t be the last to know that they deserve one, too. This type of swing provides cats sense of comfort when they rest and sleep. There are a lot of these swings in the market today, making it easy for individuals to choose for the right one. However, it is still important to consider the weather in your place as it may affect the quality of the hammock so choose those made with the most suitable material. Since a  hammock  is an easy-to-make swing, people are also given the option to make their own hammock for cats. Keep in mind that the materials used for making this one vary widely.

Make sure to look for material that is soft and has a breathable fabric. A swing which is ideal for outdoors is usually durable, allowing the cat to get a breeze during a very warm day. Some of these are also available for indoor purposes and it would be perfect to place it near the window.

So, after planning where to place the swing for your cat, might as well start preparing these materials:

·         Swivel snap
·         Nylon straps
·         Thick and comfy blanket or canvass

Start making the  hammock  for cats by coming up with a pattern that is large enough for the cat and their cage. Of course, it is wise to pattern the swing after the cage to web it out as these will connect to each side of the cage. You can draw the pattern on a tracing paper. Once this is done, fold each piece of the fabric in half and cut out the pattern carefully. This should result to two pieces of fabric cut after the pattern you planned to form the hammock. And then, cut six-inch strips of nylon straps and thread each through a swivel snap. Similar on how to sew a pillow, cut the two piece of fabric on top of each other likewise after you have sewn the edges of the nylon straps. Flip the fabric inside and out to check if you overlooked something.

As for the nylon straps, insert it to each of the four corners of the fabric. Place the swivel snap between the two pieces of fabric so that the ends of the webbing will the only thing attached to the corners. Again, sew the edges of the fabric and the nylon strap vertically but make sure to leave at least a three-inch space. Flip the hammock in and out, finding the nylon straps visible and ready to use now. If there is any gap, sew that part to put all things together. People may also add stand for their hammocks, or they can opt to tie it to the corners of the cat’s cage. In some cases, they can also attach it to places where it can be supported well and can carry the weight of the cat. Make sure that you create or buy a short hammock that can guarantee safety and comfort for your cat.
