Spoil Your Ferret by Making a Hammock

Most of the time, ferrets kill their time by sleeping on their favorite thing in the world—a hammock. It gives them a sense of wild instinct of survival in the dark warm burrow where they feel really safe. Living in the northern region of the US requires you to provide a thicker hammock for your ferrets while a single layer would be enough in the warmer region. So, if you have a ferret, a  hammock   is one of the requirements in taking care of them. There is no doubt that they certainly love this type of bed and rock to sleep.

hammock   comes in different sizes, shapes, and colors. Its material may also vary depending on the fabric such as nylon net, polyester, cotton, and rope. When buying a hammock for your ferret, there are actually many places to look from. Several pet stores will have a huge selection available but don’t look for something that is machine washable since it can easily damage or discolor the fabric. Buying online is one of the easiest and convenient options for this. The good thing about online shopping is that you can avail them at cheaper prices but may cost you a couple of dollars for the shipping fee.

A hammock for ferret can also be home made. There are a few steps when working with this and the materials may come handy since you will only need the following:

Scissors
Hole punch
Sewing marking wheel
Tape measure
Three foot by three foot fabric

Reward your adorable ferret with a hammock by making one. The first step to do this is by laying the fabric on a flat surface and measure one inch from the edge of all sides. Mark it with a sewing marking wheel accurately, and then cut along one inch-line by using scissors. The fabric should be in four piece all-in-all and set aside.

Secondly, use a punch to create a hole in the fabric and this should be about one half-inch from the tip of each corner. Insert the fabric, with one-inch size, into each corner hole until the middle of the fabric meets the middle of the hole. Tie a knot and make sure it is tight enough not to loosen up. There should be two ends loose in each corner. Lastly, hold the  hammock   and place it inside the ferret’s cage and tie the strings on the sides of the cage.

Keep in mind that hammocks are suspended inside the cage, making it important to make sure that the straps which secure it are tied tightly. You can also make use of the swivel clips in each corner to support the weight of the ferret safely. Of course, the cage should also be in good condition and not damaged so that it will not cause any injury to your ferret. This does not end here, you should inspect the behavior of the ferret frequently within the week, starting from the date you installed the hammock.
