Make your own Baby Hammock

For parents who are having a hard time putting their babies to sleep, a baby hammock is the answer. It is like a swing that provides a similar natural motion and warmth of the mother’s womb. It is also safe and the natural way to get babies and younger children to sleep soundly, giving the parents a full rest at night.

Apart from the comfort and safety it can provide, it is also practical as they can just make their own baby hammock at home. So, here are the steps in making a   hammock for your babies:
Before making this one, make sure that the materials are of high quality and can really provide safety for the babies. Individuals should prepare the following:

a yard of thick ribbon or string
three to four yards of heavy fabric
two-foot-long wooden board
chain
steel ring
spring
quick links
one yard of fabric for mattress
at least 12 by 30 inches foam

After preparing all these, start making a baby   hammock by folding two inches of the fabric downwards on all sides of it. Sew it to make an even hem. Thread the fabric through the steel ring, and then overlap the ends of the fabric by three inches and sew them together. Next, fold the fabric in half and hold the steel ring high to figure out the width of the bottom section of the hammock.

Of course, measure the length and mark it on both sides. Sew the two seams on each side and check if the mattress will fit in between these seams. If not, it should be between 12 and 20 inches wide. Thirdly, take the yard of fabric (you may also use a pillowcase) and decide on the width and length of the baby mattress you wanted to have. Keep in mind that if the base of the mattress you sewed into the hammock is 12 inches wide, the mattress should be in that same width, too. While for the length, it is usually up to you, but it should be at least 30 inches long. Once a slip cover is created for your mattress, fill it with foam, and then quilt it.

As for the wooden board, take it and decide on how low you want the baby hammock to hang. Measure 12 to 14 inches from the top centered ring according to the distance you plan between the board and the baby. And then, sew on some ribbon or string around 12 to 14 inches down from the steel ring on each side to attach the baby hammock to the board. By this time, try to tie the swing into the board very tightly to make sure that it can carry the weight of the baby. Make sure again that it is strongly attached, leaving no chances for the knots to come undone.  Drill the hook into the ceiling and make certain that you do this right so that it can safely support the weight of hammock while the baby is on it. Attach the spring to the hook, and then figure out on how low you want the swing to hang and attach the chain to the spring with a quick link.
